ST KITTS
The Caribbean islands of St Kitts and Nevis are located in the Caribbean Sea, in the Leeward Island chain to the west of Antigua. The area of these beautiful twin-island states is 261 square kilometers (101 square miles), with St Kitts occupying 168 square kilometers (65 square miles) and Nevis 93 square kilometers (36 square miles).
St Kitts has it all, natural beauty, sunny climates, warm tranquil waters, and white sandy beaches combine to make it one of the most seductive spots in the Caribbean. St Kitts remains unspoiled by mass tourism; holidaymakers will enjoy the easygoing, quiet way of life of the local people. The beautiful island of St Kitts is a tropical paradise that is usually associated with the South Pacific.
Although Nevis has lived through an earthquake and a tidal wave, which many claimed to have buried the former capital, the island is still holds fascinating old buildings and historic sites, making a great holiday destination for anyone looking to visit the Caribbean.
On the northern end of the island of St Kitts are numerous gray volcanic sand beaches, worn from the black igneous rock which makes up the island. These beaches are definitely worth a visit, especially if you’re used to the more common white sand beaches during previous vacations.
St Kitts sister island Nevis is well known for its long and stunning Pinney's Beach. With its soft, sugar-fine white sands are punctuated by coconut palms; just behind the beach lies an amazing South Pacific like lagoon. Pinney's beach never gets crowded, and the water is calm and shallow, making it perfect for swimming. Other great beaches on Nevis include Oualie beach which can be found in a sheltered cove perfect for outdoor water sports.
St Kitts has some great nightlife with South Frigate Bay being the nightlife capital of the island, lined with popular beach bars like Ziggy's, the Monkey Bar, and the Shiggedy Shack. The island also has a 24-hour casino and is one of the largest in the Caribbean.
