ANTIGUA
Antigua in the Caribbean is the largest of the English-speaking Leeward Islands, and is about 14 miles long and 11 miles wide. Its highest point is Boggy Peak (1319 ft.), located in the south-western corner of the island. Barbuda, a flat coral island with an area of only 68 square miles, lies approximately 30 miles to the north of Antigua. The nation also includes the small uninhabited island of Redonda, now a nature preserve. The capital of Antigua is St. John.
Antigua and Barbuda are located in the "Heart of the Caribbean" between the Greater and Lesser Antilles, about 402 kilometers (250 miles) east-southeast of Puerto Rico.
Antigua, along with the islands of Barbuda and Redonda, won independence from Great Britain in 1981. Antigua boasts some of the world's most stunning beaches and yachting options.
