Mauritius is a volcanic and mountainous island that is located in the Indian Ocean. The island is situated around 800km east of Madagascar. Mauritius is part of the Mascarene Islands which also includes its neighbouring islands of Réunion and Rodrigues.
Mauritius offers some great attractions to keep you entertained during your visit, including, trekking, mountain climbing and excellent beaches. And with its warm climate and large coral reef surrounding turquoise lagoons, it’s easy to see why Mauritius is known as an island paradise.
Grand Bay is one of the most popular tourist destinations on the island. This shopping and leisure paradise is also one of the main areas for nightlife, with great bars, restaurants and discos keeping the locals and tourists alike entertained.
A top attraction on the island is the Mauritius Botanical Garden, which is located near the capital Port Louis. It’s one of the oldest botanical gardens in the Southern Hemisphere. The spectacular garden covers an impressive 37 hectares. The botanical garden is well known for its giant water lilies, spice garden and unique collection of palms from Central America, Asia, Africa and the islands around the Indian Ocean.
The beaches in Mauritius are stunning with beautiful white sands and turquoise water all around it. The Belle Mare is a popular beach with white sand that boasts a deep lagoon at the eastern coast, while Mont Choicy is a long beach at the northern coast. The crystal clear waters and a reef make it a diver’s paradise
